Swallow Doretti
Produced by Swallow Coachbuilding Ltd à Waldall Staffordshire, the Swallow Doretti is the result of the work of 3 persons: E. Sanders, director of one of the companies of the group Tube Investments , Swallow is part of that group and E. Sanders is a friend of Sir John Black (big boss of Standard Triumph) ; Frank Raimbow who is the conceptor of the car andArthur Anderson, futur importator of Triumph for the west coast of the USA. A. Anderson's daughter was called Dorothy and the name was given to the car, with a slight modification for an italian apparence. The chassis is much more modern than the one of the TR2 ( Molybdène steel tubes), engine, gearrbox with OD, rear axle are provided by Triumph.Engine and gearbox are mounted more at the back in order to have a better weight reparttion and improve the raod handling. The body is in a aluminium (except the doors!), interior is leather and the soft top handling is largely improved. 276 units were produced from end 1953 to beginning 1955, it was quite a succes despite its price of 1100 £ against 844 £ for the TR2. The production was stopped suddenly due to the fact that some;of the shareholders and large customers of the Tube Investments Group had interest in similar products (Jaguar…) and they did not accept the competition. Standard Triumph never complained. The Savoye garage (237 Bd Pereire in Paris which is still importing the Morgan) did mport 6 of them in France in 1954.
